Work out whether a free plan fits

1. Count eligible contacts

   Count the audience you need to send to now. Read the provider’s rules for unsubscribed, non-subscribed, and inactive contacts because limits may use different definitions.

2. Multiply recipients by messages

   A list of 500 subscribers receiving two newsletters needs 1,000 sends. Add welcome messages, tests, and application email to the total.

3. Check the busiest day

   A daily cap can split one announcement across several days even when the total across a month looks large. Decide whether that timing fits your campaign.

4. Check the feature you actually need

   Confirm your number of workflows, domains, users, templates, and required integrations. A generous sending allowance does not guarantee all features are included.

Example: two newsletters to 500 people

The campaign needs 500 eligible contacts and 1,000 email sends. SendMailOS’s published monthly credit and subscriber allowances cover those two totals, subject to the account’s remaining capacity and restrictions. Mailchimp and MailerLite’s current Free audience limits are below 500. Brevo’s contact storage accommodates the list, but its 300 daily sends mean a 500-recipient campaign cannot all be sent on the same day under that Free allowance.

This example compares capacity only. It does not measure inbox placement, support quality, or the cost of the next paid plan. Choose a tool after checking those needs, too.

When it is time to review a paid plan

Review the next plan when your audience, sending budget, workflow needs, or required tools exceed a free allowance. Compare the same number of contacts and messages, plus any additional users or add-ons. Record what the price includes rather than relying on a starting-price headline.
